@Eidolon: Easy..... he just needs time to think alone. it's been a rough day.

Nick's thoughts currently are probably "I need a frigging drink."

Well, this is going about as well as I expected.
I would bet the enchanter council are watching at the moment. I mean, not all of them were on board with the decision to allow them to reveal this, so him going off like this is possibly not the safest thing for him right now.
Of course, he's had quite a shock and is probably not thinking about that.

@Kungroo: Sadly, our 2 times a week update schedule just prolongs the tortures. :P

@DarkwingDork: The worst thing about it, this only makes the relationship tougher to work out. I mean, he could be in a situation where the enchanter council, wishing to avoid the risk of exposure, decides he needs to be a bit more . . . let's say "sluggish" if he's not going to stay with her.
So, because of that, his relationship has basically been turned into a hostage situation. Forcing him to stay with her (especially if they jump the gun and don't give him time to work it out on his own) is only going to make their relationship go into a death spiral.
The next few days (maybe weeks, don't know how much patience and good sense the council has) are going to be the hardest part of their marriage. On the other hand, if they survive it, they'll probably have the strongest and closest relationship of any of the three couples.

@Pendrake: Well, if that had happened on the first day, I'd agree. But this was on the second day. He still walked out after all that discussion? When Reece was most vulnerable?

Not. Cool.

Nick, you better get yourself together. FAST. You do NOT want to make enchanters mad at you. Especially if Reece's parents are viewing this - making their daughter cry? With their power Being turned into a slug would be welcome to what they'd likely do to you...

*hugs Reece* :(

@tazel: Honestly, consider how huge a sudden change this is that he could have in no way prepared for. And there's been a lot of shouting and feeling embarrassed all around. Speaking from observation (because I have no personal experience in marriages), people need time to cool off and clear their heads after things like this.
And Reece is a telepath. He can't clear his head because he can't feel like he's got private thoughts. He needs to be able to feel secure in his ability to think it out straight without her getting involved. He can't do that with her there.
All in all, I'd say this is exactly what I'd expect, given his behavior up to this point. It's easy to judge from the outsider perspective because you're not in his head, feeling his confusion and stress. He's not in the best position to make clear-headed decisions. Let's just hope it doesn't get him in trouble before he has a chance to come to his senses.

@Pendrake: Most likely not just "a" drink...

The trouble is, he might get scatfaced, and start telling the whole bar about this; and you can be sure there will be *someone* who'll start spreading it around (a particular journalist comes to mind)... 7@=Q

Nick has reached his limit of "weirdness" for the day. Poor guy. Give him a bit of time, and he'll realize nothing's really changed.

@tazel: you assume this is the second day. also, remember he also just found out not only Reece, but both of her best friends are also enchanters, AND all the stuff they do, and a whole lot more besides. the shock's worn off on him, now he's just dealing with it the best he can.

sick of people assuming guys aren't allowed to show emotion and have to tough things out. he's probably more hurt than Reece right now.

remember why Reece had all of them reveal this. she said Nick had never lied to her. she'd been lying about a crapton of things for YEARS to him.

@Pendrake: Check #11. Sheila says everyone will talk it over 'tomorrow night' after they all simultaneously revealed. Means he's had two days to process, and only now is deciding this is too much. I would have understood had he walked out the first day or during the meeting. Emotions were high at that point. But this is leaving her after letting his indignation stew for two days, and at a point when she's most vulnerable. That is a piss poor thing to do.

And as for the lying, they explained that in the meeting. Tell the truth and risk his life, or keep him safe and lie to him. Wrong thing for the right reason. His responses were very selfish too. It was all about him. The others could adapt, but he couldn't. Or won't.

I don't mind showing emotion. I mind selfishness and inconsideration. And I'm seeing that in Nick right now.

@tazel: To be honest guys, I really wish I hadn't split this up over two days, exactly because this makes Nick look that much more like a dickhead in this case.

@DarkwingDork: The selfishness in his questions would be present no matter when the meeting was held. It's still a dickhead sensibility I don't like to see in him. But then again, this promotes solid characters. Just because he's acting unlikable now doesn't mean he is a jerk all the time. He is letting emotions cloud him where the others adapted. That is a very human thing to do.

The fact that these debates are happening is a good sign that were connecting with the characters as well. I wouldn't worry, DD. :)

@DarkwingDork: As someone who doesn't react well to surprises or sudden changes, I totally understand where Nick is coming from. Dude needs some time to adjust.

Nick, I hope for Reece's sake, you rethink your actions quickly. We've already seen what happens when when Reece finally snaps at someone in anger.

Something like this, she might not bounce back from.

@Foxymangle: she'd mainly not bounce back from it BECAUSE it's Nick, really.

he is the love of her life. and she's his.... honestly, you really can't expect people to just "adjust" when something this life-changing happens. it's a lot more likely to take weeks, or even months, if it happens at all.
